Recently, Boyd Gaming chefs from The Orleans, Gold Coast, Fremont and Suncoast teamed up with Chefs for Kids to host “Cookin’ Up Breakfast.” The organization works towards alleviating malnutrition and hunger through education and awareness with support of community volunteers in Nevada.

During the event, our team members prepared and served 809 meals to elementary school children, staff and volunteers at Vegas Verde Elementary School. Chef Alvin Ortanez and Chef Chris Nicholson prepared delicious sausage and egg sandwiches with hashbrowns, accompanied by a fruit cup, mini blueberry muffins, fruit juices and chocolate milk. While this partnership aimed to combat food insecurity and ensure students had a nourishing meal, it also sparked meaningful conversations and learning opportunities.

Executive Chef, Armando Fernandez, who was in attendance for the event said, “We had a fantastic time connecting with the students from Vegas Verde Elementary School. It was not only a fun and rewarding experience but also a great opportunity for team engagement as we collaborated with chefs from our other properties.”

After the meal, students enthusiastically called it the best Chefs for Kids breakfast yet!
